For this sweet treat, you’ll need:
Casserole:
- 1 Full Package of Nellie’s Free Range Chocolate French Toast Mix
- Butter
- 1 Loaf of Brioche or Challah bread, sliced or torn into pieces (that part’s really up to you!)
- 2 Cups of Milk
Toppings:
- Chocolate Ganache
- 4 oz Semi Sweet Chocolate
- 1/2 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
Homemade Whipped Cream:
- 1 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 Tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
Additional:
- Mini Marshmallows
- Chocolate Chips
- Fresh Raspberries or Strawberries
This recipe is incredibly easy and comes together in just about an hour!
To get started, preheat the oven to 350° and lay out the brioche or challah slices into a buttered 9×13 casserole dish. I sliced mine into triangles and arranged them at an angle for a pretty effect!
Now, combine the French Toast Mix and milk and whisk to combine.
Pour the mixture directly over the bread, making sure to pour the mix over each piece of bread.
Bake the casserole at 350° for 40 – 45 minutes, depending on how crispy you like the corners of the bread.
While you wait, place the mixing bowl and metal whisk of your stand mixer in the freezer for at least 15 minutes. You need it super cold to make the whipped cream!
When the casserole is finished, pull it out and allow it to cool just slightly.
While the casserole is cooling, prepare the ganache.
- Place the finely chopped semi sweet chocolate in a bowl.
- In a separate, microwave safe dish, heat the heavy cream for 1 minute. Do not let the cream boil!
- Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes. Don’t touch it! Just let it do it’s thing.
- Slowly stir the chocolate with a metal spoon or whisk until it is shiny and pourable.
Pour the ganache over the prepared casserole and decorate it with mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and fresh raspberries.
For serving, I recommend a dollop of homemade whipped cream! Homemade whipped cream is actually much easier than you’d think to make!
- Pour the heavy cream into the frozen mixing bowl and set your stand mixer to the third or fourth speed (relatively fast).
- Let the stand mixer whip for 3 – 5 minutes, until you start seeing shallow peaks form.
- Add in the vanilla and half of the powdered sugar, and let it whip for another minute.
- Taste, and if you feel it needs the rest of the powdered sugar, add it, and let it whip for one additional minute. (Everyone’s taste buds are different when it comes to fresh whipping cream, I’ve found.)
- Serve the whipped cream alongside the Chocolate French Toast Casserole.
