Raspberry Lime Smoothie

I think smoothies should fit your mood.

The first time I made this smoothie it was hot, sunny, and I wanted something tart. I usually make raspberry lemon smoothies, which are a bit smoother and give a “lemonadey” taste. But this particular day I wanted a tart limey taste in my smoothie, kind of similar to a raspberry or strawberry margarita, sans the alcohol.

If a smoothie isn’t checking a ton of your “daily value” boxes for different vitamins and minerals, what’s really the point? An easy way to make sure every smoothie you make is purposeful is to use a ton of fresh fruits and vegetables in your smoothie, rather than powdered mixes or fruit preserved in fruit juice. Also tossing in some frozen kale will ALWAYS do the trick! You’ll see kale in several of my smoothies!

Here’s the nutritional breakdown or “smoothie snapshot” for this particular recipe! I use www.nutritionvalue.org to calculate each of my “smoothie snapshots”. It’s an awesome tool, check it out!

Fort this smoothie, you’ll need:

  • plain non-fat Greek yogurt
  • frozen bananas
  • frozen raspberries
  • lime juice
  • chia seeds
  • unsweetened almond milk

I always add Greek yogurt to my smoothies. I love the creaminess that it adds, and it’s a great source of calcium! All women need plentiful amounts of calcium in their daily diet. Osteoporosis runs in my family, so I try to consistently get a good amount of calcium.

What kinds of vitamins and minerals are in raspberries?

Raspberries are a great low calorie option for your smoothies that still feature a ton of vitamins and minerals! They are a great source of fiber and vitamin C, leading to improved digestion, immune function and iron absorption.

Ingesting potent antioxidants on a regular basis may help your cells fight against cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and many other illnesses.

Is there any nutritional value in limes, or are these mostly just for flavor?

Most people just think of a lime as a margarita ingredient. They are much more than that! Limes are part of the well known citrus family, and full of vitamin C, antioxidants, and also contain B vitamins, iron, and calcium.

Limes are also incredible for your skin! The high levels of Vitamin C helps your body produce collagen, which is imperative for healthy skin and well functioning joints.

Smoothies are easy to make! Just combine the ingredients listed above in your blender and blend away! Take a look at the recipe card for the exact measurements!

I like to take a casual approach with smoothies, everybody has their own way.
