This popcorn-based snack mix combines buttery popcorn, colorful M&M's, crunchy Chex cereal, chocolate-covered pretzels, festive sprinkles, and a touch of honey butter. This sweet and savory snack is perfect for munching on while cheering on your team!

This recipe is based on a late-night snack that my hubby makes me all the time, buttered popcorn with peanut M&M's.

I seriously don't know how I've made is 30+ years without having that before. He brought it over to me on the couch one night while were having a "toddler is finally asleep, so we're gonna watch 20 minutes of a movie and pass out" kind of night, and it about blew me away. The warm popcorn gently melts the peanut butter, and it's just amazing. Okay, getting sort of off topic - let's focus. Trail mix.

To make this snack themed Game Day Trail Mix, you'll need:

  • buttered popcorn (1 bag will do.)
  • peanut M&M's (It's gotta be peanut, see above. -- It doesn't.)
  • Chex cereal
  • chocolate covered pretzels (Mini pretzels work best.)
  • honey
  • brown sugar
  • salt
  • sprinkles (optional - For fun, get football sprinkles or your team's colors! Seasonal sprinkles are cute, too! I used some fall sprinkles I had laying around.)

Do I need any equipment to make Trail Mix?

  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper (I love these pre-cut sheets from Reynolds!)

How to make Game Day Trail Mix:

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°, line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and prepare the popcorn in the microwave.
  2. Now heat the honey in the microwave for 30 seconds (just to thin it out a bit) and stir in the brown sugar and the salt (add enough salt for your preference - up to 1 tsp.)
  3. Pour the honey mixture over the popcorn and carefully toss to coat.
  4. Bake the popcorn in the oven for 30 minutes, tossing halfway through.
  5. Gently break apart the clusters and let the popcorn to cool to room temp.
  6. Toss in M&M's, chocolate covered pretzels, and Chex cereal.
  7. If desired, add in sprinkles for extra fun!
  8. Enjoy!

Storage:

To store, place into a plastic bag and store at room temp for up to 1 week. This is a great snack for mid-afternoon sleepies!
