Ingredients:

  • Chips - Your favorite tortilla chips (I love a blend of yellow and corn chips!)
  • Beef - I recommend ground beef for this recipe, 80/20!
  • Dried Seasonings - Season the ground beef with traditional burger seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder. (Or a burger seasoning blend makes this easy!)
  • Cheese - I like to go with Colby Jack or Cheddar for this recipe!
  • Bacon! - Cooked crispy bacon chopped into bits!
  • Toppings - Like fresh jalapenos, red onion, pickles (we're making a "burger" people!), tomatoes, and lettuce.
  • Homemade Burger Sauce - For this classic sauce, you'll need mayo, ketchup, pickle relish, yellow mustard, white vinegar, and granulated sugar.
A top-down view of ingredients for a loaded nachos platter, including ground beef, red onion, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, jalapenos, bacon, Colby Jack cheese, burger sauce, corn chips, and purple corn chips.

Equipment:

  • Air Fryer - We just replaced ours with a Ninja Air Fryer Pro 4-in-1. I absolutely love it! The basket is large, there are several custom settings, and it's been working great!
  • Parchment Paper - for lining your air fryer basket. This will also help with lifting the nachos out of the basket. (Now, if you are using a shelf air-fryer that uses a small pan for air-frying, you will not need the parchment paper.)
  • Squeeze Bottle - I prefer a squeeze bottle for the burger sauce. It helps with even distribution of the sauce across the nachos.

Steps to Prepare:

STEP 1: Prepare the Homemade Burger Sauce - Combine the mayo, ketchup, pickle relish, yellow mustard, white vinegar, and granulated sugar. Whisk or blend and pour into a squeeze bottle.

STEP 2: Cook the Beef - Brown the ground beef and season with burger seasonings. Drain and set aside.

STEP 3: Prep the Air Fryer - Line the base of your air fryer with parchment paper. Drop in a few handfuls of chips, enough to coat the bottom of the air fryer basket.

STEP 4: Time for the Sauce - Drizzle the burger sauce across the nachos.

STEP 5: More Cheese Please - Add the rest of your cheese on top of the nachos. This last handful of cheese will give you those gorgeous crispy cheese bubbles across the top!

STEP 6: Air Fry - Cook for 8 - 10 minutes on 400° in the air fryer, or until the cheese has melted and is just crisp on top.

STEP 7: Dress It Up! - Top with desired amounts of remaining red onion, jalapenos, pickles, and a light handful of lettuce. Drizzle with desired amount of remaining burger sauce and enjoy!

FAQ'S:

Alternative Cooking Method:

To cook these nachos in the oven, preheat oven to 400°, spread chips onto a baking sheet, follow all instructions and cook for 10 - 12 minutes. You won't get the layered effect this but they are just as tasty!

Storage:

You can store nachos in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat them in the microwave or air fryer when you're ready to enjoy them again.
